Maya's photo shoot

I love getting my picture taken!

Here, take a picture of my feet:

Hey, are we done?

Honestly? More pictures?

But I'm so hungry . . .

Merry Christmas!

Maya's a party animal!

Turkey and a big brown shoe*

Ok, technically it's a brown boot. But I wanted to work in a reference to the Thanksgiving song. Anyway, we'll get to that in a minute.

First, Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We're waiting for Maya to wake up from her nap so that we can head out to NJ to see my parents, sister & her family. Then tomorrow we're going into the city to have another Thanksgiving with Dave's family. Two thanksgivings :)

I just walked to Starbucks to grab a gigantic coffee before we leave, and was surprised (and bewildered) to see a boot on our car. Not the orange kind from the city that you get if you don't pay your tickets . . . a cowboy (cowgirl, actually) boot. On the car. Literally. Who leaves a boot on a car?

My first thought was that maybe it was in the gutter next to the car and some helpful person wanted to make sure that we saw it . . . or maybe it was a marking left from one hoodlum to another (the secret break-into-this-car code?). But surely there are less conspicuous ways to mark a car for crime. And who leaves a boot? Honestly.

Here's a pic:

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from Maya the giraffe :)

I've uploading a bunch of old pictures, now it's just finding the time to sort through some of them and get them online. Maya's also doing a great job rolling onto her belly--we'll have to shoot some new video soon!

Good morning!

Maya waking up :)

Effect & cause (like cause & effect, but backwards)

Effect: There haven't been pictures put up here in a while.

Cause: Dave and I lost our camera (oops). We got a new one, which has a million pics on it already--but I don't have the software for it on my computer yet---so no new pics.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Effect: Now there are new pics.

Cause: My mom was fed up with my lack of updates and emailed me a bunch of pictures from August.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Effect: Now I have to keep her hands clean.

Cause: Maya has figured out how to get her hands in her mouth (very cute) and suck on her fist.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Effect: We are bouncing her, rocking her, making funny noises, and behaving like idiots.

Cause: Maya has starting smiling at things (finally---after acting like a potato for the first several weeks of life).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting ready for a stroll . . .

With cousin Emerson in NJ . . .

Maya's favorite position, semi-sitting up . . .

Maya & I with Collin, Lisa & Emerson (Maya looks so little!):

All tuckered out:

Notice the hairdo in this one. She has one big curl on the top of her head. All of her hair is falling out along the sides, so she has a fauxhawk. Also, her hair is long in the back---so it's a fauxhawk mullet. And now the top is getting curly. Very stylish :) Here she is laughing at my mom . . .

Going out to hunt down dinner:

With mom & dad:

"Have you seen my tongue recently? Here it is :)"

Layla has no interest in Maya (she is too noisy and unpredictable). And since Maya doesn't even know that she has hands yet, she's unaware that we have a cat. But my mom managed to get this quick interaction on film before Layla quickly sauntered away.

Pictures are so fun. They make me giggle :)

9 weeks old

Maya had her 2 month old check-up. She is now 9 lbs, 15 oz and 23 inches long. She's growing like a little weed. She's in the 50th percentile for weight and the 75th for length . . . she's a stringbean!

I have to start a marathon of dental work this morning, apparently my teeth fell apart while I was pregnant. We lost our camera, so we have to get a new one---thankfully there were only 2 pictures on it that hadn't been uploaded yet. So more pics will come soon :)

Would you like to see the baby? Or hold her? Be my guest!

I don't want to be a crazy, annoying mom. Like the "you gotta see the baby" mom from Seinfeld. (The first couple secs of the video are weird, but then it works)

Maya and I went to brunch on Saturday with my friend Maria and after we had been there for about an hour (most of which Maya slept through) Maria finally had to say "So am I going to get to hold her or what?" Oops. I don't want to be like "Hey, you want to hold my baby?" In my mind, this equals "Do you want to hold my water bottle? Or backpack? Oh, it might drool on you. Have fun!" But of course, if I was out with a friend with a new baby I would want to hold it. How do people navigate this stuff?

I guess I'm now erring too far on the indifferent side of having a baby. Which is better . . . coming off as unaffected, or obsessed?

So feel free to come play with the baby :)

On a different note, I figured out how to get video in the blog. So hopefully we'll have some little home videos up soon and you can see Maya in action (swinging, in the tub, mowing the lawn, etc.)

I'm trying . . .really

I know, this hasn't been updated in way too long. I promise, I'll upload the camera and throw up some really new pictures in the next few days (for some older new pictures, keep reading).
When Maya's awake, I can't blog (obviously). And then when she's asleep I have some choices:
-take a nap
-pump
-wash the bottles
-clean
-take a shower
-eat something
-finish more announcements/thank you cards (which I'm still not done with)
-clean
-cook something
-clean
-answer email
-add to the blog

The blog is always the last thing on the list. Oh, and the cleaning isn't crazy dusting-disinfecting cleaning, it's putting away laundry, picking up the stuff that gets dropped all over the house, organizing stuff, etc.

I try to hit my physical needs first (eating, pumping, napping) and then my mental needs (trying to get through organizing projects so I'm not drowning in clutter) before other stuff. This is why it's taking me 23 years to get out the announcements and thank you cards, and why my inbox is overflowing.

Here are a few pictures, highlighting Maya's activities:
She takes baths:
She hangs out with her buddies:

She has photoshoots:

Which sometimes go badly:

She goes shopping:

And out to eat (sushi here, see the chopsticks?):

She reads:

And expresses her feelings:

Some of these pics are really old (I think the sushi one was when she was 3 wks old, so that's a month ago now!) but they're better than nothing, so there you go :)

Picture time

Today Maya is 2 weeks old! Her talents now include smiling, which she does in her sleep. It's very cute. She only cries when she's hungry, which has been wonderful. Dave & I trade off night duty, which has been helpful, but we're both pretty tired.

She's had some feeding issues, which means that I'm exclusively pumping. It takes a twice as long to feed her this way, but at least Dave can help too.

This morning I uploaded 199 pictures from our camera. Here are a handful from the past 2 weeks.
A few hours after the birth:

On her birthday:
Maya & Dad

Her going-home outfit (this is already too small now!)
Ready to go home, sucking on her tongue (her favorite habit)

First doctor's appointment

On our first walk:

Second doctor's appointment (weight check)

She doesn't cry much, but this is what it looks like:

Crack is whack (this diaper was put on a tad too loosely)

She's been working the Michael Jackson one-glove look, since I managed to file down all of the nails on one hand, but not the other

Bath time!

She does an amazing job of holding up her head. She's really strong!

The baby carrier. It's too hot to use it much, but she slept happily in it!
